It is hard to read in the image to the left, but Speed Boost increases Scout speed by six (!!!!) while active. This is not equivalent to six points put into the speed stat, it is astronomically greater. I will do the math later.
In Melee, a zergling with Metabolic Boost (the "ling speed" upgrade from the Spawning Pool) has approximately two speed. So take that, multiply it by three, and add in the base stat plus all your points dumped into speed. Speed Boost cost one energy per second. This skill operates exactly as it did in Runling Run 4. |
Guardian Shield creates a bubble around the Scout and prevents one or two drones hits, depending on the skill's level. It lasts for quite a while, which means that it can be used preemptively. For comparison, RLR4's shield description is to the far right. You could say that it has essentially been nerfed in RLR7, but for very good reason, as Reflection Shield was really only a tactic for fighting Diablo. Otherwise, it was a rather cheesy way to use the Scout.

Ghost Steps grants a Scout protection against pushing teammates and being pushed by them, a quality that sorely lacked in RLR4. This is a passive trait, as is a +1 to speed at max level (each level increases in 0.2 increments). As an active ability, Ghost Steps grants 0.5 seconds of invulnerability, and has a three second cooldown. What this provides is a semi-spammable shield that can prevent an unlimited amount of hits for half a second at a low cost of 10 energy. Where Guardian Shield grants invulnerability to one (two at max level) drone hits, Ghost Steps can protect against a swarm of drones if need be. Trapped in a corner from every angle? Use Ghost Steps.
I am still unsure how Guardian Shield and Ghost Steps interact with one another. Some testing will need to be done to see if Guardian Shield dissipates when hit by a drone while Ghost Steps is activated. |
To the right is Jables' Speedling. You'll notice quite the difference here from the two RLR4 Speedling builds below. Why? Because stats cannot be raised beyond 100, there is an insane amount of spillover for other stats. I began with maxing speed, Speed Boost, Ghost Steps (even before it worked!), and making sure I had about 80 energy. From there it became an energy and regen party.
How did I decide how much to add to energy and regen? Well, I watched my energy refill as I was adding points to regen, to see when I felt comfortable with how rapidly it would regenerate. By the time I liked what I saw (which was around 40 regen), I switched to trying to reach 200 energy, which occurred. By then I was level 59. My last level's points went back into regen. I didn't raise Guardian Shield until I was past level 50, because I rarely use it for one, and for another I was unsure whether it would ever be needed. Well, it turns out it's pretty damn important for Insane Mode, that's all I need to say. :D |
